Dr. Melanie Spears is a former superintendent with over 25 years of experience in education. She provides instructional leadership, content development, technical assistance, and professional development to school/district leaders as well as higher education organizations on leadership, curriculum, equity, and federal and state funding. She is an articulate and passionate speaker and consultant on topics, including School turnaround, College & Career Readiness, Common Core State Standards, Student Engagement, Equity Leadership, Mindfulness, Parent Engagement,
Data-based Instructional Decision-making, LCAP Plan Writing, Rigorous lesson design, Parent involvement, and increasing Postsecondary Access.
Additionally, her commitment to community engagement is demonstrated with her leadership and service efforts as member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. where she supports fundraising for scholarships, empower and mentor youth, coordinate annual health fairs and support the Childhood Hunger feeding campaign in West Oakland along with feeding of the homeless. She has demonstrated leadership in volunteer organizations such as the Twenty Pearls Foundation, former Vice President, WCCUSD Girls Inc., former Board President, and Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc., former Community Service Chair.
